Accessing employment

International Protection applicants can be granted permission to work if they have not received a first decision on their application within six months. That is six months after the date shown as “Application Received” on your TRC.

After five months, international protection applicants can apply online to the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration for Labour Market Access Permission. If granted, this means people can work from 6 months after the date of application for international protection.

You cannot start work until you receive your permit from Immigration Service Delivery (ISD).
